Scandals and Schemes

This production was a comedy experience which was greatly enjoyed by all. It was run at War memorial Hall in Guelph on Thursday, July 24 to Saturday, July 26. It is a play set in 19th century England. It had a cast of four and the characters were quite the odd bunch. A very corrupt magistrate. A sneaky and plotting young law clerk and his equally devilish and drunken friend. Along with a salty and gruff pirate. As its title indicates it is rife with plotting and scandal and everyone turning on everyone else. The play did not recieve a single negative review from its viewers and proved to be as much fun for the cast and crew as the audience. It is also the finest cast that The Mainstreet Players ahs brought together. It is bound to become a classic production in the company and one which will be repeated.

The Show

This production was originally run as a part of the Sears Drama Festival on behalf of St. James High School in 2005. Erik won an excellence award for writing and directing and the script won the OECTA Provincial Young Authors Award. This production centered on two writers trying to come up with a concept on an original show before they are fired. As they develop their ideas the ideas begin to play out on stage. They move through every genre and make a mockery of each one being unable to come up with a solid idea. Finally they decide on creating a show about creating a show.
